Imo: JOHESU, NANNM begins indefinite strike on Wednesday

…As State Govts Fails To implement New Salary Structure

The Joint Health Sector Unons and the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives council, Imo state chapter, to begin indefinite strike starting next Wednesday, 18 March

This is following the failure of the Imo state government to implement the consolidated Health salary structure ( CONHESS ) agreed in 2025, alongside other public salary structures as part of government’s commitment to improving the welfare ,motivation and productivity of Public health workers in the state .

In a statement on Thursday jointly signed by the state chairman of JOHESU, Uche Okafor, MHWUN Chairman, Ezenwa Francis Chinonso, and Anyanwu Lilian ,Chairman NANNM.

The statement reads, ” Having exhausted all avenues for amicable resolution,the leadership of JOHESU and NNNM,Imo state council, hereby formally notify your excellence and government of Imo state to that the unions have resolved to embark on indefinite action commencing 12:00 Midnight Wednesday,18 March, until our demands are satisfactorily addressed.

Continuing, they called for “the immediate and unconditional restoration of CONHESS for health workers in Imo, without discrimination or selective implementation,including payment or specialist allowance,call duty allowance, health professional non – clinical duty allowance,Teaching allowance , Hazard allowance and rural posting allowance serving members .

“The unions demands for the provision and full implementation of approved CONHESS salary table . The immediate payment of all outstanding CONHESS arrears from September 2025 to date,as well as the harmonization of full implementation of financial effects of IMSUTH staff promotions.”

They warned that the continued notional placement of some officers while others from the same promotion year enjoys full benefits will not be accepted .
