Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Commissioner for Commerce and Industry in Imo State, Simon Ebegbulem has hailed the Federal Government for the award of the pipeline surveillance contract to Chief Government Ekpemupolo, also known as Tompolo.
Ebegbulem described Tompolo, an ex-Niger Delta agitator, as possessing the requisite experience to execute the contract, which he sauced was crucial to the survival of the nation’s economy.
“Oil theft in Nigeria is one of the biggest challenges facing the oil sector and it is draining that sector. Just recently, the governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma lamented the effects of oil theft in our economy. He also regretted the explosion that occurred in one of the oil producing communities in the state due to the activities of those involved in bunkering. So the need to stop this waste, illegality in the oil sector is very necessary.” The commissioner said only those who do not wish the country well would kick against the move by the Federal Government to award such a contract to Tompolo.
“From what I have also read, I could see that those sponsoring criticism against Tompollo are those who are either jealous of his achievements in the Niger Delta or those afraid Tompolo has all it takes to stop the illegal business. So, I commend the Federal Government for this decision; I believe very strongly that this will help boost our daily crude oil output, and of course help the nation’s economy which is predicated on oil.”
