A historic milestone has been recorded in Imo State as Mrs Ibekwe Nkiruka Imma won the African Democratic Congress (ADC) senatorial primary for Imo North (Okigwe) Zone, becoming the first female senatorial candidate to emerge from the state’s party primaries this season.

Her emergence is particularly significant given that all senatorial candidates produced by both the ruling APC and opposition PDP from their respective primaries last week were men.

Ms Obiageli Favour Nwogu, Ikeakanwa Chinwe Clara and Ezeanochie Assumpta also won ADC tickets for Isiala Mbano, Oru East and Ideato North state constituencies respectively, while Mr Vincent Iwuchukwu and Mr Ofoegbu Uchenna Daniel emerged winners for Imo West (Orlu) and Imo East (Owerri) senatorial zones.

State chairman, Prof James Okoroma, commended the exercise, saying it produced candidates with proven track records and deep grassroots connections.

“The ADC is proud to present candidates who embody competence, integrity and the aspirations of the people,” he said.

Declaring the party battle ready, Okoroma urged all members and stakeholders to rally behind the flag bearers, stating: “Imo is ready for a new direction. The ADC is ready to lead it.”
