Chief Charles Orie, an All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Imo State, has returned to Nigeria after consultations with Imo indigenes in Europe and Canada ahead of the 2027 elections, with supporters urging him to contest the state’s governorship seat.
Orie’s return reportedly drew supporters in Abuja, Owerri and other parts of Imo State, where members of Imo Progressives for Change 2027 reaffirmed their support for his governorship ambition and the re-election bid of President Bola Tinubu.
During the diaspora engagements, Orie briefed Imo indigenes on political developments in Nigeria and called for support for Tinubu’s second-term bid. He also presented aspects of his vision for Imo State, including proposals for improved security, economic development and modern public transportation.
In London, the aspirant paid a courtesy visit to the Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu, who reportedly commended his efforts to promote diaspora inclusion in Nigeria’s political, economic and social development.
Orie proposed the introduction of a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system and light rail services in Imo State, drawing comparisons with Lagos State’s transportation infrastructure. He said the proposed systems could create jobs and improve daily movement across the Owerri, Okigwe and Orlu zones.
In a separate development, the Chief Charles Orie Foundation reportedly paid the school fees of 20 students of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, who faced the prospect of dropping out because of financial difficulties.
Supporters of Orie, under the platform of Imo Progressives for Change 2027, also pledged to mobilise voters in support of his ambition and Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
Orie’s governorship ambition comes as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 election. He is seeking the APC ticket, which will be determined through the party’s established nomination process.
