The Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the Unified Nigeria Supporters Club has joined the football fraternity in mourning the passing of legendary football coach Chief Adegboye Onigbinde, who passed into glory on Monday.

The Chairman of the Unified Nigeria Supporters Club, Prince Vincent Okumagba, expressed a “mixed feeling” of gratitude for a life well-spent and sadness over the missed opportunity to further benefit from his wisdom.

In a statement, Prince Okumagba praised Onigbinde as “the first indigenous coach of the Super Eagles” and acknowledged him as a man who “left a footprint on the sand of time.” He reminisced about the cherished memories created during the Eagles’ outings with the supporters club, emphasising that Onigbinde was “a pillar in the foundation of Nigerian football”.

He, however, emphasised that Coach Onigbinde “represents an era of discipline, courage, and football intelligence” and that his legacy will serve as an inspiration for future coaches. “Nigeria will miss his wealth of experience,” he added.

The IMC boss, however, extended its prayers for eternal rest for Onigbinde’s soul and fortitude for his family to bear the “irreparable loss”.

He urged the football community to honour Onigbinde’s contributions by fostering the values he exemplified throughout his career.

The impact of his work will undoubtedly resonate for generations to come, shaping the

future of the sport in Nigeria.
