Yoruba nation activist Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has stated that he remains on the federal government’s wanted list. He also criticised Hajia Naja’atu Mohammed, a former director in President Bola Tinubu’s Presidential Campaign Council, for claiming he enjoys freedom of movement despite being wanted.
In a statement to The Sun, Igboho called Naja’atu’s claim unfounded and ridiculous, urging her to stop dragging his name into propaganda aimed at discrediting President Tinubu’s administration. Naja’atu had reportedly highlighted disparities in the government’s treatment of separatist figures, questioning why Igboho faces no action for his secessionist activities while Nnamdi Kanu remains detained. She also accused Tinubu of sidelining the north after leveraging its votes in the 2023 election.
Igboho countered, “I’m still on the wanted list of the Federal Government despite the Presidency headed by President Bola Tinubu.”
He explained, “Currently, I’m using my German passport to travel in Europe and other continents and cannot enter Nigeria, having been declared wanted by security agencies under former President Muhammadu Buhari, who handed over a comatose economy to the present government. The order declaring me wanted still remains subsisting under the present government.”
He outlined his reasons for activism: “What was my offence? I voiced my objection to the incessant killings of farmers, maiming, and sexual violation of women by Fulani herders in South West communities, especially in agrarian settlements, during Buhari’s regime.”
Igboho recounted the July 1, 2021, attack on his Ibadan residence by the Department of State Services (DSS) and Nigerian Army, aimed at arresting or assassinating him. “The vicious attack lasted for hours, leaving two of my people shot dead and 13 others arrested,” he said.
He further questioned Naja’atu’s silence during Buhari’s administration, when Boko Haram and Fulani herders caused havoc, and Islamic cleric Sheik Abubakar Gumi profited as a negotiator with terrorists.
“Tinubu’s government is tackling insurgency head-on, unlike the likes of Gumi. Naja’atu should stop bringing my name into her diatribe,” Igboho added.
