An ex-convict, Segun Akinola, has been arrested in Lagos for allegedly stealing his friend’s bicycle.

In a Facebook post, the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos Police Command said the 30-year-old suspect was arrested on Third Mainland Bridge on Friday night.

When interrogated, the police said, the suspect confessed to stealing the bike.

“I woke up pass 12:00 a.m. and I stole my friend’s bicycle. I am riding it to Ondo State,” the suspect was quoted as saying.

The RRS said the confession shocked the operatives.

“They drove him to Muslim Road, Banana Island, Lagos where the team met his friend still sleeping (2:27 a.m.) in a Bus Stop.

“He confirmed Akinola stole his bicycle,” the RRS said.

In another incident, the RRS said a suspected vandal, Mohammed Ibraheem, was arrested around 1:30 am on Friday by operatives on patrol of Ikoyi on Alfred Rilwane Road, by Glover Road, with five folded protective mesh that were used to guide road median on the highway.

The 25-year-old suspect was allegedly arrested with neatly folded protective mesh.

“His accomplice fled on sighting the police.

“Both Mohammed and Akinola have been arraigned in court.

“The bike will be returned to its owner once prosecution is completed,” the RRS further said.
