Afrobeats star, Davido has described himself as the only billionaire’s son to make a name for himself.

He stated this while reflecting on his rise to fame and personal success, noting that he did not allow his family’s wealth distract him from following his own path.

The singer spoke with Vibe Magazine on Thursday ahead of the launch of his sixth album, Oriadé.

Davido said while his story might not fit into the classic grass-to-grace narrative loved by African audiences, he took pride in his personal accomplishments.

“Africa loves the grass-to-grace story. The young boy that was poor and became rich. But not to brag, which other billionaire child do you know in the world who has made a name for himself and also made a lot of money? You can’t name one aside from me,” he said.

Davido broke into the music scene with the moniker, Omo Baba Olowo (OBO), translated as the “rich man’s son”.

The singer, whose real name is David Adeleke, is the son of Nigerian billionaire businessman, Dr. Deji Adeleke.

Dr. Adeleke is the founder of Adeleke University in Ede, Osun State, and CEO of Pacific Holdings Limited.
