France and Real Madrid forward, Kylian Mbappe has declared he is not obsessed with winning the Ballon d’Or.
He stated this in an interview with RFI after a previous chat with TNT on HBO Max generated controversy ahead of the October 26 ceremony.
Mbappe remains one of the leading candidates for this year’s award after netting 42 times in 44 games for Real Madrid last season and scoring 10 goals to win the World Cup Golden Boot with France.
Despite failing to win any trophy with both club and country, he told TNT, “There wasn’t anyone better than me last season”.
However, the Frenchman said his confidence should not be misconstrued for obsession with winning the Ballon d’Or.
But he said he understood why his remark could have surprised people.

Mbappe told RFI, “Yes, of course.
“Then again, in France, there are lots of things that shock people; I’ve no problem with that. I’ve never wanted to please everyone, because that’s not possible.
“But I can’t bring myself to be someone else. I’m not going to try to learn how to be. I try to be myself, with my strengths and weaknesses, with my successes and my failures. And that’s how I carry on.”
He also shot down insinuation of being obsessed with winning the top individual accolade.
“No, no. I think it’s a goal for any player, for any competitor,” he added. “But an obsession? No, I don’t think so.”
