Fresh from his victory in the Osun State governorship election, Governor Ademola Adeleke has offered a personal glimpse into his family life, revealing how being the lastborn earned him special treatment from his siblings.
Adeleke made the disclosure in an interview with Seun after he was declared winner of the August 15 governorship election, with excerpts from the interview later circulated on X.
“My father was a politician, a well-educated man who travelled all over the world. He and my mum had that magic of oneness that held our family together,” Adeleke said.
The governor described himself as the lastborn of the family, saying his position allowed him to get away with many things while growing up.
“I’m the last born, so I get away with a lot of things. My older brother, Dr. Adeleke, still treats me like a kid,” he said.
Adeleke said his elder brother’s relationship with him goes beyond ordinary sibling affection, explaining that he regards him as a father figure because of the resemblance he sees to their late father.
“I see him as a father figure because whenever I look at him, I see my father,” he said.
He recalled that his brother still pampers him despite being an adult, a treatment he sometimes challenges because he no longer considers himself a child.
“Sometimes I would just, you know what, I would yell at him, I’d say, ah! I’m no more a small boy,” Adeleke said.
Asked whether he missed his father, Adeleke replied, “Big time,” before explaining the emotional connection between his elder brother and their late father. “But when I see him, I see my dad,” he said.
Adeleke also said he listens to his elder brother’s counsel, describing him as a father figure and attributing his wisdom to God’s blessing.
