Nollywood actress and compere Motunde Sogunle, known for playing Motunde, the fictional daughter of comedian Mr. Macaroni, says she is determined to show audiences the different sides of her talent beyond the popular character.
Speaking with Saturday Sun, she said the character remains an important part of her career but does not define her.
“While many people know me as Motunde, I have always wanted to evolve and let people discover other sides of me. Whether I am hosting an event or I am on the red carpet, there’s no character to hide behind. It’s simply me and my spontaneity,” she said.
Sogunle explained that her transition into presenting and event hosting was a natural progression, backed by years of training and experience. She studied Theatre Arts at Redeemer’s University, trained at Royal Arts Academy, and gained practical media experience during her NYSC in Benin City, where she served as a radio worker.
“Motunde introduced me to millions, and I’m incredibly grateful for it because it opened so many doors. But I’ve always believed one role shouldn’t define my entire career,” she said.
As a compere and red-carpet host, Sogunle said she has learned the importance of creating meaningful connections with audiences.
“The biggest lesson I have learned is that every conversation matters. People may forget what you asked or said, but they’ll always remember how you made them feel,” she said.
For Sogunle, hosting is about spontaneity, connecting with people and creating memorable experiences while allowing audiences to discover the woman behind the character.
