From Fred Ezeh, Abuja
His Royal Majesty, Dr. Cletus Ikechukwu Ilomuanya, chairman, Imo Council of Elders, has solicited the support Igbo in the diaspora for the development of Igbo land and protection of its heritage.
He solicited the support in a goodwill message delivered at the ninth Igbo Festival of Arts and Culture held in the United Kingdom, at the weekend.
He said the support of Igbo in the diaspora is crucial for the continuous growth and development of the region, assuring them that government and other stakeholders are working round the club to tackle the recent security issues in the region.
“It’s a significant day for me as we celebrate our rich Igbo heritage amongst us, and with our friends from other cultures. As a ranking Royal Father and custodian of Igbo culture and heritage, I am honored to be part of this grand celebration.

“I appreciate the initiators and organizers, led by Mazi Obi Okoli and his dedicated team for their tireless efforts in mobilizing our people and elevating our culture to international prominence. Their work in encouraging the younger generation to embrace our values and traditions is truly commendable.
“I urge you all, regardless of the circumstances, to continually support the development of Igboland and Igbo culture. It is a thing of pride to us that in today’s fast-paced world, Igbo people are not left behind. They are excelling in every facet of human endeavor. We are immensely proud of these achievements.”
He challenged them to constantly promote unity, peace, and understanding among Igbo at home and abroad, to always guide their conduct.
“At home, we are working diligently to promote peace and progress, and to also combat insecurity, which became an issue not too long ago. We are making efforts to ensure that our people feel safe and are encouraged to visit with their families as often as they wish.”
He, however, apologised that he couldn’t be present at the meeting because of the late arrival of the invitation letter. “There is no doubt that this celebration will become bigger and better in the years ahead, with the commitment of the initiators, as I have seen.”
