Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has declared that he will remain in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), emphasising his loyalty to the party under which he was elected.

Speaking during the Omituntun Ramadan Lecture in Ibadan on Thursday, Makinde assured party members and supporters that he is “going nowhere” and will continue to support the PDP’s vision and values. He stressed that the party must focus on competence and good governance, rather than personal loyalty to any individual.

Makinde’s declaration comes amid speculation about defections and shifting alliances in the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections. He highlighted that loyalty should be directed towards service to the people, rather than centred on political figures. His remarks were reportedly met with applause from attendees, signalling broad support for his commitment to the party.

Addressing ongoing debates about party leadership, Makinde reiterated that the PDP must remain united and focused on its mission. He noted that while governors and leaders are free to make personal political choices, such movements should not weaken the party’s structure or distract from its core goals.
