The All Progressives Congress (APC) Ife Council of Elders has endorsed Hon. Rotimi Makinde as its preferred candidate for the House of Representatives, citing his long-standing ties to the community and consistent political track record.
The endorsement was announced during a gathering of party elders in Ile-Ife, where members of the council expressed confidence in Makinde’s ability to represent the Ife Federal Constituency. Speaking collectively, the elders described Makinde as a familiar and trusted figure who has remained committed to both the party and the people over the years.
“If our votes would count, you are good to go,” the council declared, underscoring both their support and concerns about the broader political process.
The meeting was led by Prince Adeleke Adewoyin, a former Deputy Governor of Osun State under the administration of Chief Bisi Akande. Adewoyin noted that the constituency values experience and reliability, emphasizing that Makinde has been “tried and tested” in public service.
According to the elders, Makinde’s history with the community sets him apart from other aspirants who only engage with constituents during election periods. They highlighted his accessibility, grassroots involvement, and contributions to local development, including support for schools and healthcare initiatives.
“We have seen politicians who disappear after elections and return only when seeking office,” one elder said. “Makinde is not a visitor. He is part of us.”
The council also acknowledged internal party dynamics, expressing hope that their endorsement would be given due consideration in the selection process. While reaffirming their loyalty to the APC, they stressed the importance of choosing candidates with proven commitment to the constituency.
Prince Adewoyin added that the elders’ decision reflects a deliberate effort to avoid uncertainty in representation. “We do not gamble with our future,” he said. “We know him, and we can predict his leadership.”
The endorsement signals growing support for Makinde within key party structures in Ile-Ife, as political activities gradually intensify ahead of upcoming elections.
