Prominent politician and former chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Hon Ilawole Taiwo has emerged the House of Representatives candidate of the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA) for Ilaje/Ese-Odo federal constituency of the state.
Ilawole was formerly an aspirant for the House of Representatives seat in the APC but he joined the DLA.
Already, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had published the name of Ilawole on its recently released list of candidates for the 2027 general elections.
Also, the commission had recently pasted the nomination details of Ilawole on the notice board at its Ondo State headquarters in Akure.
Hon. Ilawole’s move from the APC fold to contest under the DLA platform has triggered widespread discussion among political stakeholders and observers, with many viewing the development as a significant realignment ahead of the elections.
Sources hinted that the nomination may have links to influential political figures within the government circle considering the popularity of Ilawole in the state.
The development came amid lingering tension within the APC over the party’s internal arrangements for the Ilaje/Ese Odo constituency.
Following the party’s primary election appeal, a former Commissioner for information in the state and incumbent member representing the constituency, Hon Donald Ojogo was chosen as the APC House of Representatives candidate, replacing another aspirant who was widely believed to have enjoyed the backing of the state Governor.
Political observers believe the new candidacy could reshape voter alignments in the constituency, particularly if it succeeds in mobilizing support around themes of inclusion, generational change and local development.
