All is set for the 2026 NNPC-SNEPCo InterSchools Swimming Competition, scheduled to hold on Saturday, October 24, at Ikoyi Club 1938.

Now in its third edition, the competition is sponsored by Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) and Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited (SNEPCo), in collaboration with Ikoyi Club 1938. The initiative reflects the sponsors’ commitment to youth development and the nurturing of sporting talent, providing schoolchildren across Lagos State with a platform to showcase their abilities, build confidence and develop a passion for swimming.

Chairman of the Club’s Swimming Section, Akin Onabolu, confirmed that preparations for the competition had been concluded and commended the sponsors for their continued support.

“We are grateful to NNPC and SNEPCo for their commitment to this initiative. Their support goes beyond sponsoring a competition. It is an investment in young people, the development of swimming talent and the creation of opportunities for children to discover and fulfil their potential.

“Their continued partnership has been instrumental in sustaining this platform, and we are proud to work with organisations that recognise the value of investing in the next generation. The swimmers are eager to compete, and we look forward to an exciting day of racing and outstanding performances,” Onabolu said.

The competition will feature races in the backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, freestyle and individual medley, alongside team events. Young swimmers will have the opportunity to test their abilities, compete against their peers and earn medals in recognition of their performances.

Beyond the competition itself, the initiative underscores the importance of sustained investment in grassroots sports and youth development. Through their partnership with Ikoyi Club 1938, NNPC and SNEPCo are helping to create an environment where young athletes can develop their skills, embrace healthy competition and take their first steps towards greater achievements in swimming.

The event is expected to deliver an exciting day of swimming as participating schools and their athletes gather at Ikoyi Club 1938 to compete, celebrate sporting excellence and showcase the promise of Nigeria’s next generation of swimmers.
