Ikoli’s matriarch for burial  Nov. 28

 

 

The family of the late Nigerian journalism pioneer, Ernest Sissei Ikoli, has announced that the burial of their matriarch, Elsie Ajayi Ikoli, will take place on Friday, November 28, 2025.

Madam Ikoli, described as a woman of courage, character and generosity, passed away on September 2, 2025, in Lagos.

According to a statement issued by the Ernest Ikoli Foundation, funeral activities will begin on Thursday, November 27, with a Service of Songs and Night of Tributes at The Citadel, 274 Kofo Abayomi Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The event is expected to draw family members, friends and associates who will gather to honour her memory.

“We are prepared for the last journey of Madam Elsie Ajayi Ikoli,” the statement said.

Her remains will be taken from the Lagos University Teaching Hospital on Friday, November 28, to 26 Eric Moore Close for a lying-in-state, where her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren will pay their final respects.

The foundation praised Elsie Ikoli for her strength, hard work, prudence and commitment to her family, as well as her contributions to the business community and the church.

A funeral service will follow at 10:00 a.m. at The Salvation Army Church, 11 Odunlami Street, Lagos Island. Interment will take place at Ebony Vaults, Ikoyi.

A celebration of life reception will hold later that day from 2:00 p.m. at The Hall Event Center, 16 Musa Yar’Adua Street, Victoria Island.

The ceremonies will conclude with a thanksgiving service on Sunday, November 30, at The Salvation Army Church, Lagos Island, where dignitaries are expected to join the Ikoli family in honouring her legacy.
