Ikeja Local Government Area has distributed 50,000 exercise books, 3,000 schoolbags and 1,000 mathematical sets to pupils in public primary schools as part of efforts to improve teaching and learning in the council area.
The distribution, supported by Fidelity Bank, was carried out under the council’s Back-to-School Initiative, themed, “Supporting Education, Inspiring Excellence.”
Chairman of the council, Hon. Akeem Olalekan Dauda, said the intervention was designed to provide pupils with essential learning materials while easing the financial burden on their parents and guardians.
Dauda said the programme formed part of the Ikeja Agenda, through which the council had continued to widen access to education and provide support for students at different levels.
According to him, the council provided free General Certificate of Education forms to 200 students in 2025 and 2026, in addition to Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board forms for 500 students.
He also announced that the council’s 2026 bursary portal would open on October 15 to enable eligible indigenes to submit their applications online.
Meanwhile, the council has commended the Lions Club for organising a debate competition for public primary schools in the area.
The competition, tagged, “Reading Action Programme 2026,” was organised by a district of the club to commemorate this year’s International Literacy Day, with four schools from the council area participating.
