The Deputy Governor, Economic Policy Directorate, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Philip Ikeazor, has led newly inducted Fellows of the Chartered Institute of Directors Nigeria (CIoD) in pledging stronger commitment to good corporate governance, ethical leadership and responsible directorship.
Ikeazor, represented by the Director, Payment Systems Department, CBN, Musa Jimoh, made the pledge in his vote of thanks at the 2026 Fellows’ Night and Investiture of the Institute.
He described the Fellowship as both an honour and a call to greater responsibility, stressing that leadership must be anchored on integrity, sound judgment and a strong sense of duty.
According to him, the Fellowship was not merely a recognition of professional achievement, but also a reminder of the responsibilities that come with occupying leadership positions in organisations and institutions.
He said the Fellows had benefited from the Institute’s programmes and training, which provided them with knowledge and insights in leadership, corporate governance and responsible directorship.
Ikeazor stressed that effective corporate governance had become increasingly important as businesses and institutions faced complex economic, technological and social challenges.
“Good governance is not simply about compliance with rules; it is about creating institutions that are accountable, transparent and resilient, and capable of delivering sustainable value to their stakeholders,” he said.
He urged the Fellows to demonstrate the values promoted by the Institute through their conduct, decisions and leadership, noting that the induction marked the beginning of greater responsibility rather than the end of their professional journey.
According to him, leadership should be judged not only by the results achieved, but also by the manner in which those results were achieved.
“The decisions we take, the standards we set, the people we influence and the institutions we leave behind are all part of our leadership legacy,” he said.
Ikeazor said the Fellows would maintain high standards of professionalism and integrity while applying the knowledge and experience acquired through the Institute to contribute positively to their organisations, professions and society.
He also pledged the Fellows’ continued support for the CIoD and its efforts to promote high standards of corporate governance and leadership.
The Deputy Governor expressed appreciation to the President of the Institute, Otunba Adetunji Oyebanji, F.CIoD, the Council, Secretariat, facilitators and others who contributed to the development of the Fellows.
He said the new Fellows accepted the Fellowship with humility and a strong sense of responsibility, promising to justify the confidence reposed in them and support the continued growth and impact of the Institute.
