From Femi Folaranmi, Yenagoa

As the race for the presidency of the apex group of the Ijaw nation, the Ijaw National Congress (INC) heats up, the people have been urged to brace up to confront insecurity and disunity confronting the Ijaw nation.

Veteran Ijaw freedom fighter and a presidential candidate for the March 2006 INC election, Elder Timi Kaiser-Wilhelm Ogoriba, who stated this over the weekend when he picked his nomination form, maintained that the INC should be a vehicle to emancipate the Ijaw nation, and also a platform for the emancipation of the Ijaw people.

Ogoriba, who promised a rejuvenated resource control struggle, insisted that the INC should focus its energy on fighting for the Ijaw people for the practice of true federalism.

While disclosing that he was contesting to reposition the INC and advance the collective interests of the Ijaw nation, Ogoriba said uniting the Ijaw nation and addressing critical challenges confronting the people would be his top priority if elected.

He described himself as the right man for the job, maintaining that with his experience and capacity, he can lead the INC efficiently.

According to him, under his watch as INC president, the Ijaw nation would confront issues of insecurity and internal disunity headlong.
