Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho has responded to speculation surrounding his future at Bursaspor after making history in Turkey during Monday’s 2-0 victory over Pendikspor.

Iheanacho, who joined the Turkish club during the summer transfer window, found the back of the net in the second half to increase his tally to 15 goals and extend his scoring streak to 11 consecutive matches.

With the goal, the former Celtic forward set two records, further cementing his name in the record books of Bursaspor and Turkish football.

The Nigeria international became the first Bursaspor player to score in nine consecutive matches, surpassing Brazilian forward Fernandao’s eight-match streak during the 2014-15 season.

He also became the first player to score in 10 consecutive league matches, overtaking Galatasaray legend Metin Oktay, who scored in nine successive matches during the 1962-63 season, and former Turkey international Saffet Sancaklı, who achieved the feat in the 1995-96 campaign.

His impressive displays have sparked speculation surrounding his future at Bursaspor ahead of the upcoming winter transfer window.

Speaking after the match, the Nigerian international refused to comment on his future, insisting that he preferred to focus on the present rather than speculate about what lies ahead.

“I am not going to say anything about the future until we can to the future,” Iheanacho said via Spor Bursa.

“Right now, we are living in the moment, so we have to enjoy the moment now that we are living in it and make the most out of it and continue playing, winning, being at the top of the table, and scoring goals.”

While describing the match against Pendikspor as a tough encounter, Iheanacho expressed pride and excitement at making his mark in Turkish football.

“Before the game last week, I didn’t even know about the record before I was told. I am now in the record book and I am happy to achieve that in Turkey, it is not easy.”

“It was a tough game but I am now in the record book, so I am happy and proud to be in the record book and hopefully there will be more goals to come from me and the team,” he said.

Despite the speculation surrounding his future, Iheanacho will remain focused on maintaining his impressive form as he aims to help Bursaspor secure promotion back to the Turkish Super Lig.
