The preseason is not going well for Super Eagles striker, Kelechi Iheanacho, who appears to be a clear discard for the 2025/2026 season due to his lacklustre performance at Sevilla FC and his high salary.
In fact, he has not participated in the initial training sessions under the newly appointed coach ‘El Pelado.’

He is currently dealing with an illness that has persisted longer than expected, echoing the vague health issues that sidelined him before the end of his loan to Middlesbrough, where he returned with few notable achievements.
During his time at Middlesbrough, Iheanacho scored one goal and provided two assists in 15 matches (767 minutes). The club was unable to secure promotion to the Premier League, and it seems unlikely he will remain at Sevilla, especially with Isaac Romero on the squad and potential winter replacements like Akor Adams and Álvaro García Pascual. Sevilla is also looking to their youth academy for fresh talent, as demonstrated by the recent signing of Álex Costa. Similar to Iheanacho, Rafa Mir is returning from a less-than-stellar stint at Valencia CF.
Fortunately for Iheanacho, this is the final year of his contract, whereas Mir still has a contract until 2027, making a possible termination much more costly.
