Commissioner of Police, Cross River, Ajo Geoffery Ordue, said the command has run criminals aground. He told the Inspector General of Police [IGP] Conference in Abuja: “We arrested 20 suspected kidnappers, armed robbers and cultists.
“The command has recorded strides within two months in its fight against crime, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to safeguarding life and property. The command has continued to intensify efforts in combating crime through proactive policing, intelligence gathering, and swift response to distress calls.
“The command had imbibed, community policing and warn officers to shun corruption. I have warned officers against the use of torture in conducting investigations on suspect. We have charged some of the suspects to court, while others are under investigations. The command applies professionalism, transparency and unwavering commitment to upholding the rule of law.
“This has restored public confidence and improved security. The command has been combating violent crimes, dismantling criminal syndicates, fostering community policing and enhancing collaboration with sister security agencies and stakeholders.
“We launched operation VELVET Marine to combat piracy, sea robbery, smuggling and other marine crimes. We also focus on the Calabar Channel, Qua River, Great Kwa River and adjoining creeks, to strengthening police visibility. The operation is a strategic response to the directive of IGP Olatunji Disu to strengthen maritime security, dominate the waterways and deny criminal elements freedom of action.
“I have charged Marine Police personnel to operate with professionalism, discipline and accountability, while upholding human rights and maintain close operational cooperation with the Nigeria Navy, Nigeria Ports Authority [NPA], National Inland Waterways Authority [NIWA] and other relevant security agencies.

“The command has updated the professional capacity of officers in line with global policing standards and addressing skill gaps caused by out dated or neglected procedures. We stepped up night patrols, aimed at reinforcing the policies commitment to serving and protecting the community.
“I have charged officers to stay alert and be proactive in preventing crime and ensuring public safety. Officers to conduct patrol with diligence, respect, courtesy and respect the rights of the citizens.
“Operatives of the Violence Crime Response arrested a six-man gang for alleged robbery in Royaline Technologies, Ettagbor Road, Calabar, burglary and stealing involving N49 million. They also arrested two suspects over alleged filling station robberies. Operatives arrested 10 suspected cult members of the Axe Men Confraternity.
“Officers were charged to stay alert and be proactive and ensure public safety. They should conduct patrols with diligent and respect for the rights of citizens. We aim to assess operational effectiveness of all units, identify challenges and implement effective solutions. The strategy is to strengthen community policing and enhance security measure within the state.
“I have visited traditional rulers seeking stronger partnership for community security. I encouraged them to reinforce security collaboration with the police and all stakeholders to ensure a safer state.”
