IGP confab: We’ve run criminals aground, nabbed 65 suspects, says Benue CP

Comissioner of Police Benue State, Mr Ifeanyi Emenari, has said: “We have run criminals aground and arrested over 65   suspected armed robbers, kidnappers, child traffickers and cultists, rescuing 35 victims.

He was speaking at the Inspector General of Police [IGP] conference in Abuja: “The command will intensify efforts to curb crime and criminality. Officers should be professional in the use of torture in investigating suspects. The command has heightened security measures ahead of Christmas and the New Year.

“The use, sale and distribution of fireworks, bangers and other explosive devices remain strictly prohibited. Joint surveillance and intelligence sharing operations are ongoing to prevent security breaches.

“We have declared war against criminals terrorising the citizens.  I want to give kudos to my officers for applying professionalism. We have charged some suspects to court, while others are still under investigation.

“I have given comprehensive operational directives to all DPOs and area commanders to reinforce the intelligence gathering mechanism, deepen the community policing framework through sustained citizen engagement to ensure lawful and professional protection of vulnerable communities.

“Police attached to Gbeji Divisional Office, mobilised patrol team and other tactical units, raided the camp of a notorious bandit known as Small Folder, at Gbeji in Vandeikya Local Government. Police Division, Otukpo, arrested three suspected armed robbers at Adoka Ankpa Road, Otukpo and recovered a locally fabricated pistol.  Also, Police Division, Jato-Aka, Kwande Local Government, arrested seven suspects, all from Cameroun and involved in criminal activities.

“Police A Division, Makurdi, arrested two suspected armed robbers.  Also, Police Division, Buruku, arrested three suspected armed robbers and recovered 3.62mm ammunition, two expanded shells of rubber bullets

“A joint operation of Police Division Orokam and Udenu Division, Enugu State, rescued 14 kidnapped victims along Benue/Enugu Road in kidnappers’ hideouts in the border forest. Three suspected armed bandits terrorising Gwer East Local Government were arrested by operatives of Divisional Police Office (DPO), Alaide.  Meanwhile, the DPO, Katsina-Ala, through an intelligence patrol team recovered AK-47 rifles at Tijime Solozo village.

“Operatives of the Area Command, Otukpo, and Awulema vigilante, arrested four suspected armed robbers. Ayilamo Police Division engaged kidnappers in gun duel and rescued two victims and neutralised one of the bandits. One of the kidnappers was arrested and 10 GSM handsets, bags, cutlass, two power banks and four SIM cards recovered from him.

“Police in Ogbokolo arrested suspected armed robbers. Police in Kwande arrested a suspect for beheading a victim at Ugee Mbalav. Three suspected armed robbers were arrested for culpable homicide in Ukum LG. Police in Orokam arrested three suspects for child trafficking and rescued eight children along   Orokam-Enugu Road Ogbadibo.

“Operatives in Otukpo Division in joint operation with NSCDC and Benue State Civil Protection Guards rescued 13 kidnap victims unhurt and without ransom. The victims were on transit from Otukpo to Oju when a gang of armed men blocked the road.

“Police tactical team in Adoka raided blackspots and arrested 10 suspects, recovering hard drugs. Operatives arrested a 38-year-old suspect, the mastermind of the majority of killings in Dauda in Guma LG.  He has been involved in criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide.

“Police Division, Ogoli, mobilised a patrol team and detectives to scene where they recovered seven expended shells of 7.62mm ammunition and corpse of the deceased at the scene of the crime. Also, Operation Restore Peace, Benue State, raided suspected bandits’ hideout in Sankara and arrested eight suspects.
