Commissioner of Police, Anambra State, Nnanna Ama, has said that the time is up for kidnappers, armed robbers, cultists, murderers and illicit drug dealers, just as the command arrested over 45 suspects. He told the Inspector General of Police [IGP] Conference in Abuja: “The command will expose unrepentant criminals.
“We have arrested over 40 suspects, some of them are charged to court, others are still under various investigations. We are demonstrating unwavering commitment to safeguarding life and property. The command has continued to intensify efforts in combating crime through proactive policing, intelligence gathering and swift response to distress call.
“We engaged the Arewa community in meaningful interaction on security concerns, community policing and practical measures to enhance the safety of life and property. We also stressed importance of timely and credible information sharing, community support and mutual trust in preventing and tackling crime.
“Operatives of Rapid Response Squad (RRS), arrested a 25-year-old suspected armed robber and a kidnapping syndicate member operating around Ifite Awka and forcefully taking victims to their hideout at Umoji, Ebenebe axis. Police also arrested a 36-year-old woman over a disturbing trending video of a lady allegedly using sex toys on a minor in Onitsha. We rescued four children and recovered sex toys and other incriminating items
“Operatives in joint collaboration with other security agencies comprising Nigerian Navy, Nigeria Army, Department of State Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigerian Immigration Service and operatives of the Agunechemba security outfit intercepted two vehicles during stop-and-search operation at a check point in Isuofia, Aguata LG. Police attached to B Division, Amensea, arrested a 16-year-old in connection with an armed robbery incident in Amansea, Awka North LG.

“RRS operatives arrested a 28-year-old suspected drug dealer and recovered a large quantity of suspected cannabis sativa, methamphetamine and Colorado estimated at N5.8 million. They also arrested four suspected kidnappers involved in armed robbery cases.
“I have warned officers against the use of torture in conducting investigations on suspects. We have charged some of the suspects to court, while others are under investigation. The achievement of the command is a testament to the hard work and sacrifice of the entire officers and men of the command. We apply professionalism and transparency in carrying out our duties.
“This has restored public confidence and improved security. Anambra State has recorded significant milestones in combating violent crimes, dismantling criminal syndicates, fostering community policing and enhancing collaboration with sister security agencies and stakeholders.
“We want to thank Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo for fighting armed robbery, kidnapping and cultism. There is calm with the support of the state government, which has given us operational vehicles to enable us, along with other sister security agencies, to smoke criminals out of the state. The command has updated the professional capacity of officers in line with global policing standards and addressed skill gaps caused by outdated or neglected procedures.
“We have stepped up night patrols, aimed at reinforcing the policy’s commitment to serving and protecting the community. I have charged officers to stay alert and proactive in preventing crime and ensuring public safety. Officers to conduct patrol with diligence, respect, and courtesy, and to respect the rights of the citizens.”
