delta State Police Command has arrested over 50 suspected armed robbers, kidnappers and cultists, rescued 10 victims and recovered 90 arms in Ethiope East Local Government.
Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, told the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Conference in Abuja: “This period of Yuletide, the command recorded success in tackling criminals in the state.
“I want to give kudos to the my gallant officers for going after the hoodlums. We also appreciate Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for given us operational vehicles (Operation Delta Sweep), which assisted our officers to clampdown on the criminals in their various hideouts.
“Operatives of CP Special Assignment Team (SAT) arrested suspected notorious armed robbers in their hideout in Ughelli. They also recovered sophisticated weapons live ammunition from them.
“Ekpan Police Division on surveillance team along Effurun Road arrested two suspected armed robbers with a black bag containing 57 live cartridges, English pump action and locally made to size pistol.
“SAT operatives arrested two suspected kidnappers in Ughelli LG and recovered pump action gun and one Baretta pistol. They also arrested five suspects in Sapele and recovered illicit drugs, multiple bottles of codeine, weeds and sachets of tramadol.
“Operatives at Abraka Police Division stormed Kakiri-Samagidi bush in Ethiope East LG and rescued two victims, when the suspected kidnappers abandoned their victims. The Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Squad engaged the kidnappers along Asaba/Benin Expressway.
“SAT stormed some hideouts along Ewheru-Patani Road, Ughelli LG and arrested two suspects. They confessed involvement in terrorising Warri-Sapele Road, Masogar axis. They were also involved in killing victims in Oghara and Ughelli.
“Also, the team arrested eight suspected cultists in various locations in Otom and Sapele. The suspects are members of the Supreme Viking confraternity. They confessed to series of cult-related killings.”
