IGP confab: Anambra police arrested 70 suspected kidnappers, robbers, says CP

Commissioner of  Police, Anambra State, Mr.  Ikioye Orutugu, has warned criminals to stay away from the state. He told the Inspector General of Police (IGP) conference in Abuja: “We arrested over 70 suspected armed robbers, kidnappers, cultists and rescued 20 victims. We recovered 100 rounds of ammunition, an AK47 rifle and a pump action in the criminals’ hideout.

“The command will intensify efforts to curb crime and criminality.  Officers should be professional in the use of torture in investigating suspects. The command has heightened security measures.

“There is joint surveillance and intelligence sharing operations ongoing to prevent security breaches. We have declared war against criminals. I want to give kudos to my officers for applying professionalism. We have charged some suspects in court, while other suspects are still under investigation.

“This year will be too hot for criminals to operate. I have a comprehensive operational directive to all DPOs and area commanders to reinforce the intelligence gathering mechanism, deepen the community policing framework through sustained citizen engagement to ensure lawful and professional protection of the vulnerable community.

“The command wishes to remind traders, business  owners and Ndi Anambra to exercise  heightened caution and strictly  observe  fire safety measures  during this harmattan. We are committed to the protection of life and property.

“Police operatives, attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu arrested five suspects and recovered two pump action guns, five live cartridges, one ash coloured shuttle bus, face masks, plate numbers and other incriminating items at Ring Road, Awka.

CP Special patrol during an offensive security operation in Abagana, recovered one pump action rifle, one locally fabricated single-barreled rifle, one ash Toyota Highlander with Reg UWN 680 PE, and suspected stolen cash of N600,3600.

“Police-led joint operation security team comprising operatives from Rapid Response squad Awkuzu and Aguneche Mba, acting on intelligence arrested two suspects. They were responsible for providing food and other essential logistics to a criminal group linked to secessionist activities within the camp located around Orsumoghu and Agulu Ezechukwu.

“Operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad [RSS] Awkuzu with Neni Divisional arrested five suspects involved in armed robbery and theft at Agulu, Anaocha LG. Police attached to the Special Anti-Cult Squad [SPACS] arrested two suspects. RSS arrested two for kidnapping and armed robbery.

“Two suspects were arrested for kidnapping three Cameroonian, and recovered two female decomposed bodies of their victims. RSS Awkuzu, also apprehended two suspects in Ihiala and recovered two pump action firearms and 29 live cartridges.”
