The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, on Tuesday received the Commandant, management, directing staff, participants and support staff of the National Defence College (NDC) at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, where discussions focused on police reform, state policing, command and coordination protocols, and other emerging internal security issues.
Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Iniedo, said the NDC delegation was led by the Commandant, Rear Admiral A. Ahmed, and included Major General K. E. Chigbu, Deputy Commandant/Director of Studies; Air Vice Marshal E. Owai, College Secretary; Prof. A. O. Ahmad, Provost of the Centre for Strategic Research and Studies (CSRS); and several senior military officers. The delegation also comprised police participants, including Commissioner of Police S. A. Afunluhi and three Deputy Commissioners of Police.
Speaking during the visit, Rear Admiral Ahmed informed the Inspector-General that the paper presented by the participants was the outcome of rigorous research conducted entirely by police officers undergoing studies at the College, while faculty members provided only academic guidance and methodological support.

He explained that the participants applied their professional knowledge, critical thinking and operational experience to develop practical, innovative and implementable strategic options, expressing confidence that the findings and recommendations would contribute meaningfully to the national discourse on police reform and strengthen the capacity of the Nigeria Police Force to tackle contemporary and emerging internal security challenges up to 2035.
Responding, IGP Disu described the study as timely and highly relevant to Nigeria’s evolving security landscape, commending the participants for producing a research work distinguished by its depth, scholarly quality and practical value.
The Inspector-General noted that the study would provide a solid foundation for shaping the framework for state policing, particularly through its sound methodology, comprehensive assessment of public concerns and practical recommendations drawn from comparative experiences of countries operating state police systems.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to strengthening institutional collaboration with the National Defence College and other strategic partners in advancing effective policing, enhanced internal security and national development.
