The intervention of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2 , Adegoke Fayoade, has thwarted an alleged attempt by the Attorney-General/Commissioner for Justice, Ogun State, Oluwashina Ogungbade, to discontinue investigations into murder allegations against Elijah and four other persons.
The Ogun State AG had earlier in January 2025, In a Nolle Prosequi, directed the Ogun State High Court in Ilaro to discontinue another murder case and other criminal proceedings involving Elijah and other persons
The suspects were some days ago arrested in connection with the alleged killing of Saheed Shoboyejo in the Osuke area of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area in Ogun State, where other people were also reported injured.
AIG Fayoade confirmed that the suspects had been transferred to the Nigeria Police Force headquarters in Abuja, on the orders of the IGP.
Elijah and four others were still under investigation when the Ogun AG asked to take over the case from the police.
Meanwhile, human rights lawyer, Olayinka Sanni, has called on the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, to “urgently set up a commission of enquiry to investigate all the top officials of the Ogun State Ministry of Justice who are involved in sabotaging justice in murder and other criminal cases in the state.”
The lawyer questioned the interest of the Ogun Attorney-General that warranted him to initiate a Nolle Prosecui on murder allegations, even when one of the cases was still under investigation and was yet to be properly charged by the police.
The AG of Ogun State had on March 19, 2025, directed the Ota Magistrate’s Court to allow his office to take over the proceeding of Elijah and others case, on behalf of the Ogun State Government.
Ogungbade, SAN, in the letter to the Ota Magistrate’s Court, wrote, “Exercising powers conferred on the Attorney General of Ogun State, under Section 311(1)(c),243(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended), I, Oluwasina Ogungbade (SAN), Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, hereby take proceeding on behalf of Ogun State.”
Earlier in January, in another case against Elijah and two other persons, who were standing trial over the death of Monday Eredua at the High Court of Ogun State, Ilaro, the Ogun AG also filed a Nolle prosequi case directed the court to “discontinue the charge and all criminal proceedings against the defendants in respect of Charge No. HCT /46c/2022 – Saeed Dada (M) ,Bankole Francis (M) and Elijah Adeogun (M).”

“One of the agencies, specifically, the Ministry of Justice, in Ogun State, has been hijacked by a notorious killer known as Elijah.”
He continued that, “his is not the first time or the second time that the Ministry of Justice will enter a Nolle prosequi on behalf of somebody who was always arrested for murder.”
“This suspect has never been charged for any other crime except murder and in all instances of the murder, it was discovered that the weapon used was AK-47.
“There is a need for an enquiry to be set up to investigate the Ogun State Ministry of Justice and all the murder cases against Elijah and his cohorts.
“On the 19th of March, when the police approached the court to get a remand warrant, the case was not in court; the Ogun Attorney General decided to enter a Nolle Prosequi to take over the case.
“On the 27th of February, 2025, another murder was committed. There is a video of how the perpetrators were leaving a compound with AK-47 and other weapons. Some of them have been arrested. The video is in the custody of the police at Zone 2.
“Rather than allowing the police to do things constitutionally, the Ogun Attorney General again came all the way to Lagos to take over the case. What is his interest in Elijah?
“Anytime he is apprehended for murder, the Ogun Attorney General will come and enter a Nolle Prosequi to take over the case file,” Barrister Sanni said.
