Igbo youths have thrown their weight behind the planned peace summit organised by the Elders Council of Ohanaeze Ndigbo world wide.
The youth group under the aegis of the Coalition of South East Youth Leaders(COSEYL) is also supporting the release of the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu who is still being held by the Department of State Services (DSS) to attend the summit.
In a statement to that effect on Monday by the President General of the group,Goodluck Ibem to newsmen in Owerri, it noted that peace is the only panacea to good governance and wondered why interest on election when the peace of most part of the country is under threats.
While commending Ohanaeze and chairman of its elders council,Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu for initiating the peace move,Ibem urged all the southeast governors to give the summit the necessary support to succeed.
Ibem said “The Coalition of South East Youth Leaders, COSEYL, the apex socio-political youth group in South East geopolitical zone commend the Chairman of Ohanaeze Elders Council Worldwide Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu over the move for a peace summit in South East.
“We commend the tireless efforts of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide to secure the release of the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu from DSS custody.
“The move for a peace summit is pertinent at this point in time because insecurity have taken over our land and something has to be done to bring to a halt this evil called insecurity that has taken over South East.
“Ndigbo is known for peace, togetherness and industriliazation and that trait is gradually eluding us as a people.
“South East governors should try and leave electioneering and press on President Muhammadu Buhari to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu unconditionally as ordered by the Federal Court of Appeal.
“The nation is at loss if South East that is a major commercial hub of the country is in ulter disarray.
“The South East Governors should give Ohanaeze all the necessary backing needed to make this move a huge success. If there is no peace, it will be difficult to hold a successful elections hence the need for peace before the elections”. Ibem stated.
