The Ndigbo Unity Forum (NUF) has condemned the killing of four policemen and a Point of Sale (POS) operator by gunmen in Imo State and called on the Federal Government to declare state of emergency over the incessant killings in the state.
The group described the Monday killings in the state as idiotic, barbaric and desecration of the land, saying that the security situation in the state has reached an alarming level whereby people are no longer safe in the state.
President of NUF, Mr. Augustine Chukwudum, in a statement, said that the incessant killings of civilians and security men in the state was why the group was calling on the FG to declare state of emergency in the state in order to squarely tackle the menace.
“Ndigbo Unity Forum is calling on President Bola Tinubu to intervene by declaring state of emergency in the state to avoid further killings of Innocent people.
“We also called on all the security agencies in the state to fish out the criminals, who are committing genocide against humanity and stop hiding under the toga of unknown gunmen to perpetrate their ungodly act.
“They should be arrested and prosecuted because those who committed the crime are human beings and not ghost, we also call on President Tinubu to compensate the families of the policemen and POS operator who were killed with reasonable amount of money.
“This is because the people murdered were someone’s husband, father brothers, uncles, sister, cousins etc. We renew our call to Mr President to equip our police with sophisticated weapons and bullet proof vest. We also commerisate with the family of those who lost their family members in the recent killings”.
