Over 200 athletes drawn from five states across the country featured at the just concluded Samson Kayode Omotosho packaged Roller Sports Freestyle Tournament that took place last weekend at the National Stadium Surulere, Lagos.
Held in conjunction with the Roller Sports Federation of Nigeria (RSFN), the well-attended programme attracted a good number of Roller Sports stakeholders who stormed the arena to be part of the fun.
Also in attendance were members of the Omotosho family led by Mrs. Hannah Omotosho, the mother of Samson Kayode Omotosho aka ‘SuperTouch’.
Speaking with Journalists at the occasion, ‘SuperTouch’ said the Freestyle tournament was born out of his burning desire to give back to the society that made him, as well as show Nigerian youths that they can live good lives by actively participating in sport. Using himself to drive home his point, ‘SuperTouch’ noted that he was nobody before his full involvement in Roller Sporting activities but today, he is a big force to be reckoned with because of his full involvement in sporting activities. In her words, Mrs. Omotosho commended her son ‘’Super Touch’’ for organising the tournament and urged Nigeria. Youths to be proactive if they must achieve their dream in life while the RSFN Secretary General, Mr. Philip Oyede, thanked all those who contributed in one way or another to make the programme a success.
Meanwhile, with, ZAGG Energy Drinks, Golden Penny and DE Miller Farms as official sponsors, participants carted home gift items courtesy of the sponsors while it was Naira rain for winners in various categories of the event with N75, 000, N50, 000 and N25, 000 given to the first, second and third position winners respectively.
Such winners include Iganga Samuel, who won the men’s Long Jump and Ramp Jump events respectively. John Mccray emerged tops in the men’s high Jump category and Chris Ajefemi picked the top spot in the men’s Speed Slalom event.
Other winners include Omotayo Gideon who claimed the first position in the men’s Battle Slalom category and Ajala Esther who dusted others to emerge victorious in the women’s Speed Slalom competition while Kolawole Ariola beat others to emerge champion in the women’s high jump category.
