The Ife North Local Government Area (LGA) recently hosted its first-ever quiz competition and scholarship award ceremony, celebrating academic excellence among students in government schools.

The event took place at Asipa Community High School, Asipa, and was organized by Dr. Gbenga Owolabi.

This inaugural event aimed to recognize and reward outstanding students and schools for their academic achievements.

The competition witnessed participation of 46 students, representing 10 out of 15 schools within the council area. Out of these, 40 students were honored with prizes, showcasing the event’s success in fostering academic enthusiasm and competition among young learners.

The award categories were designed to recognize both individual and institutional excellence.

In the school awards category, Origbo Community High (Unity) School, Ipetumodu, emerged as the top performer, securing the title of best school and a cash prize of N100,000.

This accolade was a testament to the school’s overall academic prowess. Yakoyo High School, Yakoyo, was named the second best school and received a cash award of N75,000, while Origbo Anglican Grammar School, Moro, energed the third best school title with a prize of N50,000.

These awards were a way to encourage schools to strive for excellence and to appreciate their efforts in nurturing academic talent.

The student awards were equally competitive, recognizing the top performers in the quiz. Ayoola Racheal from Origbo Community High (Unity) School, Ipetumodu, emerged as the best student, and she received a cash prize of N100, 000.

This accolade highlighted Ayoola’s exceptional knowledge and performance throughout the competition. The second best student award went to Olabiyi Favour, also from Origbo Community High (Unity) School, who received N75, 000.

This award underscored Olabiyi’s significant achievement and strong performance in the quiz. The third place award was shared between Imram Hamed of Origbo Anglican Grammar School, Moro, and Olubunmi Jumoke of Yakoyo High School, Yakoyo, with each receiving N50, 000. Their joint recognition reflected their outstanding contributions and competitiveness.

In addition to these top honours, category 3 recognized over 35 students who were awarded based on their school performance. These students received prizes of N30, 000, N20, 000, and N10, 000, further encouraging a broad spectrum of participants and highlighting the council’s commitment to rewarding academic effort across various levels.

Dr. Owolabi, who spearheaded the event, expressed his satisfaction with the competition’s outcomes and his hope for future editions. The successful hosting of this event marked a significant step in the LGA’s efforts to promote educational excellence and provide valuable incentives for students to excel academically.

Overall, the quiz competition not only provided financial rewards but also fostered a spirit of academic competition and achievement among students. The ceremony was a fitting celebration of academic success and a promising start to what is expected to become an annual tradition.
