Former Edo State House of Assembly (EDHA) Majority Leader Matthew Iduoriyekemwen yesterday secured the Edo South Senatorial District ticket under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The result was declared by Mr Ebiowei Olomu, Chairman of the ADC Primary Committee, in Benin City.

He said Mr Iduoriyekemwen secured a total of 23,174 votes to emerge as the winner of the primary.

Mr Olomu also said Prince Musa Braimoh emerged winner in the Edo North Senatorial District, polling a total of 14,992 votes, while Mrs Herberta Okonofua won the Edo Central Senatorial District ticket by securing a total of 4,898 votes.

Olomu said the election was peaceful and urged the winners to maintain the same spirit and work towards winning the main election.

Addressing journalists after being declared the winner, Mr Matthew Iduoriyekemwen said the people of Edo South have had several senators who have contributed their quota to the development of the state.

He said he is going to the Senate to serve as a voice for the unification of the people of Edo South and to attract meaningful development to the state because he has lived in the state and knows their yearnings and aspirations.

Also speaking, Mrs Herberta Okonofua said she was called upon by her people to come and serve them and that she believes they are going to back her.

She noted further that things have changed, adding that the Senate is no longer a place of retirement but a place where laws are made for the well-being of Nigerians.
