The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) launched a search of the former governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai’s Abuja home on Thursday as part of its ongoing investigation.

His Media Advisor, Muyiwa Adekeye, revealed the situation in a post on his verified X handle, saying: “The Aso Drive residence of Malam Nasir El-rufai was today searched by the ICPC.”

The search takes place as the former governor is still being held by Abuja’s anti-graft agency in connection with a continuing investigation into the state’s financial operations during his eight-year term as governor, which ran from 2015 to 2023.

Ubong Akpan, El-Rufai’s attorney, condemned the move in response to the development, describing it as “unlawful, and a clear violation of legal procedures and fundamental rights.”

He did not immediately say if anything was taken from the premises during the operation or if the legal team would contest the relocation in court.

The move is another step in the growing multi-agency investigation of the former governor’s eight-year term from 2015 to 2023, when he was questioned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the ICPC over alleged financial irregularities.

There was no immediate response from the ICPC regarding the purported search.
