Former Lagos State governors, traditional rulers and other prominent indigenes are set to converge to deliberate on issues affecting the interests of Lagos natives at the forthcoming Ibile Eko Summit.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by Dr. Agboola Kotun, Head of the Lagos Division and Chairman of the 2026 Summit Planning Committee.
According to the organisers, the summit, themed “Addressing Urbanisation and Urban Challenges of Lagos State,” will hold on April 15 at the MUSON Centre, Lagos.
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is expected to serve as the chief host, while a former governor of the state, Babatunde Fashola, will deliver the keynote address.
The Executive Director of the Nigerian Institute of Oceanography and Marine Research, Prof. Sule Abiodun Akinsemoyin, will participate as guest speaker.

The event will also feature the presence of notable traditional rulers, including the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, alongside the Olu of Agboyi, Oniba of Iba, Oniru of Iruland, Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Ranodu of Imota, and Alara of Ilara, among others.
President of the Ibile Eko Summit Foundation, Mr. Olasupo Shasore (SAN), will formally welcome participants to the gathering.
The foundation noted that the summit aims to provide a platform for robust discussions on urbanisation pressures and socio-economic challenges confronting Lagos indigenes, while also advancing practical solutions for inclusive growth.
Highlighting its past interventions, the foundation revealed that it had championed the proposed declaration of May 27 as Lagos Day to celebrate the state’s cultural heritage and values, with a private bill already submitted to the Lagos State House of Assembly.
It also disclosed its advocacy for a policy mandating companies operating within Lagos to reserve 30 percent of their workforce for indigenes.
In addition, the foundation said it had engaged the Dangote Group to facilitate employment opportunities for Lagos youths, noting that about 100 young people are currently undergoing various stages of recruitment.
The foundation reaffirmed its commitment to promoting policies and initiatives aimed at addressing urban challenges and fostering inclusive development across Lagos State.
