Commuters and motorists using the Ibadan-Oyo Road have called on the Federal Government to urgently rehabilitate the highway, lamenting its deteriorating condition and the attendant delays and rising transportation costs.
The Oyo State Elite Group also faulted what it described as inadequate attention to the road by the Federal Government and lawmakers representing the state.
In a statement signed by its president, Segun Adewumi, the group said the Ibadan-Oyo corridor remained important to transportation and commercial activities within Oyo State and beyond.
It said the Ibadan-Iseyin Road constructed by the state government had provided an alternative route for many commuters who would otherwise face greater hardship.
The group noted that despite recent Federal Government approvals for several road projects in Oyo State, the Ibadan-Oyo Road remained in poor condition.

It listed some of the approved projects to include the dualisation of Ilorin-Ogbomoso Road, reconstruction of Iseyin-Eruwa-Agbesi Road, Ogbomoso-Oko-Illupu Road, Idi-Araba-Ayede-Olodo Road and other projects. The group said the approvals did not remove the need for immediate intervention on the Ibadan-Oyo Road.
It called on President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Ministry of Works to assess the highway and take steps to rehabilitate it.
The group also urged APC lawmakers from Oyo State to intensify efforts to draw Federal Government attention to the condition of the road.
It said rehabilitation of the corridor would ease movement of people and goods, reduce transportation difficulties and support commercial activities.
The group urged the Federal Government to ensure that infrastructure approvals were matched with timely implementation.
