Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Blessing Nze has opened up about her relationship with her husband, actor Stan Nze, revealing that their journey to marriage began with a friendship she never imagined would become romantic.

The actress shared the story on The Life Pointe programme, where she recounted her first impressions of Stan, their unlikely friendship, and how their relationship eventually blossomed into marriage.

“When I first met my husband, I felt he was too big. He couldn’t open his mouth and greet me properly. I even complained about him to my friend and jabbed his big lips. He was acting so Igbo and proud,” she said, laughing.

Their relationship, however, took a different turn when they later met at her estate while Stan was on a film set. He asked her to prepare breakfast for him, which she did, though she still didn’t see him as someone she could have a relationship with.

“I made the food for him, but even at that point, I took him for one of those hungry industry boys,” she said.

Blessing said neither of them initially had romantic intentions. In fact, they would even try to find partners for each other.

“At some point, he was looking for a boyfriend for me, while I was also searching for a girlfriend for him. We were enjoying a healthy friendship at that time, with no thoughts of marriage or dating.”

She recalled that when Stan jokingly suggested that they could get married, her immediate response was, “God forbid.”

At the time, Blessing said she was actively trusting God for a life partner following a series of disappointing experiences in previous relationships.

“I have encountered a series of heartbreaks from men. Premium disappointments. Those experiences led me to surrender my love life to God, and I vowed to become celibate until my wedding night. My husband was never my spec, though; in fact, he is the opposite of my spec. I never wanted to end up with a struggling man, and I used to look at him as a small boy,” she said.

But as their friendship grew stronger, Blessing began to consider the possibility that Stan could be the life partner she had been praying for.

She revealed that at one point, she gave God a deadline, asking Him to make Stan declare his intentions if he was truly the man meant for her.

“I was like, ‘God, please, if this man is for me, let him use his mouth and say it before December 31st,’ and it happened. What started as an unlikely friendship eventually developed into a romantic relationship and, ultimately, marriage,” she recalled.

The couple have been friends for nine years and married for five years, and their union is blessed with a son.
