Real Madrid icon, Claude Makelele has revealed he urged club president Florentino Perez to sign Michael Olise, saying the Bayern Munich and France winger is “like Lionel Messi”.

Speaking to Spanish outlet MARCA, the Dutchman said Olise could do unexpected things with the ball just like the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner.

Olise has been linked with a Real Madrid move following a sterling season with Bayern Munich.

According to Makelele, the 24-year-old is the closest player to former Brazil and Madrid striker, Ronaldo De Lima.

He said, “Michael Olise to Real Madrid? I would support it.

“I had the opportunity to speak with president Florentino Perez and I told him that if there’s money to spend on just one player, it’s him.”

The 52-year-old described Olise as a player who brings back “the feeling of watching football, the taste of what we experienced as children: talent, freedom, quality, effectiveness. When he’s not on the pitch, his absence is noticeable.”

The Frenchman enjoyed a brilliant season with Bayern Munich and shone for France at this year’s World Cup.

He contributed 23 goals and 31 assists across the Bundesliga and Champions League for Bayern in 2025-26, and helped France reach the semifinals in the World Cup with five assists, the highest in the competition.

Bayern insist the Frenchman is not for sale.
