Bayelsa West senator and National Leader of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Seriake Dickson has said he decided against joining the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) because he did not believe the nation should become a one-party state.
Dickson said this in Abuja on Thursday when he received the management of LEADERSHIP Newspaper.
The former Bayelsa governor said the decline of his former party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), necessitated his move to another platform.
Rather than join another existing political platform, he said, he chose to establish the NDC as an alternative platform for Nigerians and to help strengthen multiparty democracy.

“Months down the line, we have built a formidable party and a major opposition platform in Nigeria,” Dickson said.
He thanked Nigerians, NDC leaders, officials, members and supporters for their confidence, commitment and sacrifice for the party.
Dickson equally acknowledged the contributions of NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and vice-presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to the development of the party.
He urged members to put behind them disagreements arising from the nomination process and concentrate on mobilising support for all the party’s candidates ahead of the 2027 general election.
