Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare has declared that his primary mission at AFC Ajax is to deliver goals after completing a season-long loan move from Wolverhampton Wanderers, expressing confidence that he can help restore the Dutch giants to the summit of domestic football.
The 25-year-old Nigerian forward has already made an immediate impression, scoring in a pre-season friendly against FC Volendam as he begins life in Amsterdam ahead of the new Eredivisie campaign.
Reflecting on his first days at the club, Arokodare praised the atmosphere within the Ajax dressing room, saying the players and coaching staff have welcomed him warmly.
“The players and the coaches are very welcoming. The mentality is great,” the striker said.
Arokodare noted that everyone at the club remains driven by the disappointment of last season and is united by a determination to return Ajax to winning ways.
“The team knows what happened last season and what we have to do this season. When you step onto the training field, you can feel the mentality. Everyone wants to win and return to the top,” he said.
The former Genk forward also underlined his responsibility as a striker, insisting his focus is on producing goals whenever he is called upon.
“I want to help the team by scoring goals. I know how to score. That’s my job,” Arokodare stated.
He added that even when goals do not come, he intends to make his presence felt by unsettling opposition defenders and contributing to the team’s overall performance.
“If I don’t score, I try to make it hell for the defenders. If I fight for the team, the individual success will follow,” he added.
Ajax will be hoping Arokodare’s encouraging pre-season form translates into competitive action as the club seeks to challenge for domestic honours and re-establish itself among the leading forces in Dutch football.
