Governor Francis Nwifuru, yesterday, said his administration inherited pockets of crises and conflicts in different parts of Ebonyi State.
He stated this at the Abakaliki township stadium during his one year anniversary celebration.
Nwifuru said most of the crisis have appeared intractable and defiled all solutions and that he has come up with a more tactical approach to ensure that lasting peace returns to the troubled communities.
He warned that his administration would no longer allow killings, maiming and destruction in the communities.
“We have come up with a more tactical approach to ensure that peace returns to affected areas.
“As a road map to achieving lasting peace, white papers have been issued in respect of the Abaomege/Ishinkwor, Ohaukwu/Amana and Effium crises to achieve peace.
“Implementation committees have been set up to ensure strict implementation of the white papers and with the calibre of people in the committees. We are confident that peace will soon return to the affected communities,” he said.
Nwifuru said his administration has taken its place of distinction among the comity of states that has emerged with wise and far-reaching plans for the socio-economic well-being of the people.
The governor disclosed he has procured and distributed 100 vehicles to security agencies as support for them to secure the state and remain one of the safest states in the country.
In their remarks during the celebration, former governors of the state, Anyim Pius Anyim, Sam Egwu, Martin Elechi and David Umahi lauded the governor for his leadership style.
The former governors said Nwifuru has been running inclusive, purposeful and pragmatic leadership since one year which they said has brought peace, unity and development in the state.
They urged him to continue the way he is ruling the state to take it to the desired destination.
Anyim, who is a former Senate president of the country, said: “For the last one week, Ebonyi has been agog with activities and today we are here to celebrate the grand finale of the first year anniversary of your purposeful and pragmatic leadership.
“You have demonstrated exemplary leadership through people-oriented policies and programmes.
“Your administration has given us a cause to come together across all divides. You have brought unity and peace in the state. Your scholarship has taken our young youths out of the streets and made them busy.”
Egwu, on his part, said the people are happy with his leadership style
“Ebonyi people feel happy that all those that governed the state have done their best for the state. They are happy they made the right choice and elected you to continue from where we stopped and we are happy you are making us proud.
“Your excellency, I am happy with your meekness and kindness. I am very pleased with your administration. If you continue with this way, at the end of your tenure, Ebonyi people will continue to remember you.
“It is always the prayer of a father that his son should be better than him. Your excellency, it is our prayer you will be better than all the leaders that have governed the state,” he said.
