Nigeria star striker, Victor Boniface says he feels terrible missing out of action for the Super Eagles in the 34th edition of the African Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire after he sustained a late injury less than 48hours to the kick-off in Abidjan.
Boniface was initially selected in Nigeria’s 25-man squad, but he missed out due to a muscle and tendon injury in his right adductor he sustained during the Super Eagles pre-AFCON training camp in Abu Dhabi, and will need surgery to repair the damage.
The Bayer Leverkusen striker who has since been replaced by Terem Moffi, successfully went under doctor’s knives in Germany, began his physiotherapy session early this week.
He said during his recovery session, “It’s terrible for me to miss out on the AFCON and also some matches in the German Bundesliga. But that’s football, as one should expect these things. It’s important for me just to remember to stay focused and come back.
“I have watched some matches; I tried to support the team (Bayer Leverkusen) even though I’m not on the pitch. I will keep supporting the team until am back from injury
“Now it’s all started but I feel ok, so we’ll take it step by step. We have to wait for 10-12 weeks and then we’ll see.”
