Grammy winner, Tems has recounted some of the struggles she faced early in her career, including getting booed during a performance in her school where she expected a standing ovation.

The Afrobeats star, whose real name is Temilade Openiyi, opened up in an interview with Big Boy TV.

The ‘Wait for U‘ crooner said she even got pelted with plastic bottles during the same performance.

“I remember one time I was going to perform at my school as an up-and-coming singer and I thought I was going to receiving a standing ovation.

“But I got booed. They even threw plastic bottles at me,” she disclosed.

Tems said the experience, though unnerving, did not discourage her from pursuing her musical career.

She admitted that earlier rejections and disappointments could be attributed to her decision to stick to her original sound rather than copying the trendy option of doing covers.

Looking back, the two-time Grammy winner expressed gratitude that she stuck to her guns despite pressure to conform.
