Grammy nomination was released recently and Nigerian artistes got a sizeable recognition; the most from Africa.
This is an indication in how well we have performed on the global scenes with albums from Bxnx, Asake, Fireboy and EP from Olamide getting a deserving buzz around the globe. Soon to join the rank of artistes topping charts and bagging nominations is HenryKvsh who is set to drop his EP “KNOWWHERE” soon.
We sat with the fast rising artiste and his confidence in himself and African root is inspiring. First he said he got the inspiration for his name from the Kush/nubia kingdom. He spoke about how their culture and history, especially coming from Africa inspires him. He said, “Africans are always looked down on and to think we have one of the first civilizations in the world is something to be proud of.
Speaking about his style of music, he said, “I do afrobeat mixed with Afrotrap; I call it afrotrapkin”. The boldness to define his style, knowing it is a unique niche of Afrobeat is inspiring, but HenryKvsh has refused to be boxed in a corner which is why the forthcoming EP will be a combined sound – Afrobeats related songs and Afrotrap. He said, “Afrobeat has opened the door, and now that the world is watching it is time to show them we can entertain.
“Africans are immense when it comes to entertainment; it is a lifestyle for us. The amount of money we spend on Owambe parties and lifestyle is evident, not to mention how you cannot be dull around an average Africans. This is why Africans are doing greate across the globe and our music is equally penetrating the global scene effortlessly.”
HenryKvsh whose real name is Owueka Odili Henry, a graduate of Auchi polytechnic, spoke so boldly, you can feel his roots and growing up in every statement he makes about himself and his root. Although a Delta indigene, but he was born and raised in Auchi, Edo state; and we know how those two states are culture oriented and how their history echoes from ancient civilizations. We are rooting for HenryKvsh and also looking forward to his forthcoming EP. We love a bold African child, and so we love HenryKvsh already.
