I can’t renew my passport based on ‘Wanted’ tag FG places on me – Igboho

Igboho vs FG,

From Oluseye Ojo, Ibadan

Yoruba nation activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, fondly called Igboho, has cried out that he has been unable to renew his international passport in Germany based on the ‘Wanted’ tag that the Federal Government placed him.

He made this known on Tuesday when he visited the Olugbon of Orile-Igbon,  Oba Olusola Alao, in his palace at Orile-Igbon, Oyo State.

He enjoined the Federal Government to remove his name from wanted list and prioritise security in the South West region.

Igboho, who called on Olugbon and other traditional rulers in Yorubaland to ensure that the security architecture of South West is strengthened adequately, said he would not have come to visit the monarch,  but for clearance that he received.

The Department of State Services (DSS) had in July 2021 declared Igboho wanted in connection with his Yoruba nation activism.

But at the Olugbon palace, Igboho said: “I am not happy that I am not free in my own fatherland. I want the Federal Government to remove my name from the wanted list because I am not a criminal.

“A lot of people are threatening to kill me. I cannot sleep in my house. The other time, I applied for the renewal of my passport abroad. They did not issue it to me. They said I have been banned to obtain or renew my passport, and that I am have been declared ‘Wanted’ by the last administration of Muhammadu Buhari.

“The security situation in the South West is alarming and demands urgent attention.

“I am not saying that the task of securing Yorubaland should be handed over to me. The powers that be should give it to whoever can do it, and we will support the person.”

Olugbon of Orile-Igbon,  Oba Alao, in his response, appealed to President Bola Tinubu to have mercy on Igboho and ensure that his name is removed from the ‘Wanted’ list. He said: “You (Igboho) are not a criminal. Your efforts played a role in the emergence of a Yoruba president. I appeal to President Bola Tinubu to pardon you and fully restore your rights.

“I also urge all South West governors to speak with one voice and approach the President on your behalf. Enough of your time abroad, we need you back home.”

On regional security, Olugbon stated: “The Federal Government may have its national security plans, but for the South West, I recommend Sunday Igboho. He has demonstrated the capacity.

“I will send a formal recommendation to the governors and to President Tinubu within 48 hours.

President Tinubu will complete his eight years. A Yoruba man will be in the presidency until 2031.”
