Nollywood hunk turned movie producer, Mike Ezruonye has come a long way since he made his entry into Nollywood years back. Known for his romantic roles, the thespian moved off at a tangent a while ago when he released his debut movie production effort, Bro Jekwu. In this chat with TS Weekend, the actor talks about Bro. Jekwu and confesses that his entry into Nollywood was accidental.

How has the journey been so far?

I came into the industry by God’s will years back and so far it has been a manifestation of God’s plans in my life. Though there have been ups and downs but I am very happy; it has been a very interesting and rewarding journey.

Your debut movie production effort, Bro. Jekwu was warmly recieved. How do you feel about that?

Wow! I was humbled by the reception and I thank God. I have always been one actor who doesn’t like to be boxed in a corner; I like thinking outside the box and I like to showcase my versatility and thank God it has made me relevant. Bro. Jekwu is just another side of me. I was thrilled by the reception.

What inspired Bro. Jekwu?

Well, the truth is that anybody who knows me knows I am a very lively person and I enjoy a good laugh. And I have always told myself that if I would ever have my own personal production it would be comedy. My fans should watch out for more hilarious productions

Are you switching to comedy and dumping romantic roles which you are known for?

No, like I said earlier, I am an actor and a true actor is one who should not be boxed into a corner. So definitely, it is not only comedy for me. Yes, I have a lot of stuff out there but Bro. Jekwu will always stand out. Let us not forget that people like Tyler Perry do very serious movies but still do comedy. For me, I am just an actor out to wow people so I am not switching to comedy but just going to bring out good works for my fans. But interestingly, all of a sudden people have forgotten my name and now call me Bro. Jekwu everywhere I go. The craziest thing is that people just see me and start laughing and I don’t pick offence because I know where it is coming from.

Did you ever dream of being an actor talkless of winning awards?

No, I never thought of being an actor or even being an award winning actor. I never for once thought about it; acting came to me by accident!

What has been the secret to your success?

It has been hard work, passion and above all, God. I am like Cinderella in a fairy tale. I came in and things just started happening so I say it is the handiwork of God. I am also very hardworking and passionate about work.

What is your advice for those who aspire to be like you?

Get an education, be hard working, pray and if you are in the right circle, you will surely shine. Also, try to train and improve on your skills.
