The Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC) has donated relief materials to victims of flood in Makurdi and Agatu Local Government Areas of Benue State.
The relief materials included food and non food items such as rice, millet, maize, mattresses, mosquito nets, detergents,toiletries, blankets and cash while those with health challenges were given free medical treatment.
Managing Director of HYPPADEC Alhaji Sadiq Abubakar Yelwa, who was represented by the Director of Engineering and Technical Services, Dr Daniel Ipilakyaa, said the gesture was to alleviate their plight of the flood victims.
While noting that the commission would sustain development support to riverine communities in line with its mandate, he assured that all ongoing projects in the state would be completed.

Yelwa listed some of HYPPADEC’s projects in Benue to include construction of the Idye River Basin Flood Control, provision of solar powered boreholes and streetlights as well as construction of primary schools in several communities.
On his part, the Commission’s Head of Relief Management, Thomas Kende, disclosed that an assessment of more affected communities is being carried out for intervention, just as the State Coordinator, Magdelene Jam-Ayu, enjoined the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the items.
In their separate remarks, the Ter Makurdi, Chief Vincent Aule and Ada Agatu, Chief Godwin Onah commended HYPPADEC for its development initiatives, particularly in rural communities even as they urged the Commission to sustain the good work.
Some of the beneficiaries, Paul Iorzua and Victoria Terwase, while promising to make judicious use of the relief materials, appreciated the Commission for bringing succour to them at their difficult moment.
