Two suspected kidnappers have been killed by local hunters in Kano State after collecting a ₦10 million ransom for the release of a kidnapped man, with the money recovered intact.
The Kano State Police Command disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday by its spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.
The statement said the victim, 45-year-old Kabiru Aliyu of Falgore Village, Doguwa Local Government Area, was released unharmed after the suspects collected the ransom.
Aliyu was reportedly kidnapped on September 11, 2026, and spent several days in captivity before his release.
According to the police, three suspected bandits emerged from Falgore Forest around midnight on Saturday to collect the ransom. Shortly after releasing Aliyu, they were ambushed by local hunters known as Yan Bula while returning to their hideout.
“During the ambush, two of the suspected bandits were neutralised, while the third suspect escaped with injuries. The entire ransom sum of ₦10 million was recovered intact from the neutralised suspects,” the statement said.
The police identified one of the suspects killed as Dogo Isah, a commercial motorcycle rider from Maigwanda Village in Kubau Local Government Area of Kaduna State. Preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects may have travelled from the village before the incident.
The Commissioner of Police in Kano State, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the Yan Bula hunters for supporting security operations against kidnapping, banditry and other violent crimes under Operation Kukan Kura.
Bakori directed the area commander, divisional police officers and tactical teams operating in the area to search Falgore Forest and neighbouring communities for the fleeing suspect.
He also ordered intensified efforts to arrest the suspect and recover any weapons used by the gang.
The command said Aliyu had been debriefed, medically examined and reunited with his family, while assuring residents of its continued commitment to protecting lives and property.
