Commissioner of Police Kwara State, Adekimi Ojo, has charged officers to hunt down criminals for peace to reign in the state: “We arrested 13 suspected armed robbers, kidnappers and cultists.

“My mission is to make the public and the police to have good relationship and imbibe community policing. This will assist police to flush out hoodlums from the state.

“I have reminded officers and men to be committed to professionalism, have zero tolerance for corruption and shun abuse of human rights. They should always operate within the ambit of the Police Act.

“The officers are up to the task to confront security challenges. They should respect fundamental human rights and protect lives and properties of the people. The command is not taken chances with criminals.

“Our success reflects the dedication of our officers and men and their commitment to proactive policing, collaboration with sister security agencies and community engagement with useful information.

“The command marked National Police Day. It aimed at strengthening public trust and enhancing police-community relations. There were free medical, community engagement and sensitisation. The theme was: ‘We are saying NO to crimes such as drug abuse, kidnapping, rape, armed robbery, sexual abuse, sexual violence.’

“Police arrested 10 suspected armed robbers terrorising Ilorin and Offa axis. Also, the Police Tactical Team arrested another set of kidnappers. They came from a neighbouring state to operate. The suspects confessed to being involved in various crimes in the state. Operatives arrested suspected cultiss involved in armed robbery in IIorin. They are membersw of Eiye Confraternity.

“Officers should take community policing with all seriousness, have good relationship with members of the public and build confidence. We will ensure proactive response to criminal activities and engage in effective human and technical intelligence gathering process to enhance personnel capacity.

“The vision of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Olukayode Egbetokun, is to fight crime and criminality, uphold justice, fairness, protect human dignity and restore standard and values. I am appealing to members of the public to collaborate by working in synergy with other security agencies in the area of intelligence sharing to stem crime.”
